Hello everyone! For those who don’t know me already, I’m Lydia. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of the film society since practically my very first day at UCL, from attending screenings and workshops, to working on productions and affiliate productions in a number of different roles, to serving as Drama Producer on the committee last year. As such, I’ve been aware of, and fascinated by, our archives for some time, and couldn’t be more excited that there will finally be a team to work on ensuring that they are properly taken care of and organised.
Archival work is extraordinarily important, even when done on a small scale, as it helps to guarantee the preservation of vital historical resources that might otherwise be lost to decay. With celluloid, it is vitally important that this is done quickly and done well, to avoid the possibility of total loss, and minimise the need for restoration down the line.
I would be thrilled to take on the position of archivist this year, not least in order to put the skills gained from a number of years working in administrative jobs and volunteer roles to use in an area that i’m truly passionate about.
