With pre-production now underway on our very exciting term 2 film, the time has come for all those at UCL with an interest in filmmaking to put themselves forward for filling out the roles we’ll need on set and in post-production. We like to be as ambitious with term films as possible, to try and create pieces of art that everyone involved will be proud of and come away from having advanced their knowledge and ability in whatever job they’ve held. At the same time, we see the shoots as an opportunity to meet like-minded people and have fun partaking in a process that can, and should, be really good fun for everyone involved. For this reason, it’s certainly not paramount that you come into the team with bags of experience under your belt. Our priority in choosing people is their enthusiasm and willingness to help make the set an enjoyable place to be. Please don’t be put off from applying if you’ve never done any filmmaking with the society before, or at all for that matter! We can train people in the equipment they will be using and will be hosting a social for the crew to get to know each other before we arrive on set.
The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Sunday the 27th of February. Please email uclfilmsociety@gmail.com and bryn.chiappe@hotmail.com with a short personal statement detailing why you’d like to work on the film as well as which roles are of interest to you. If you don’t have a specific role in mind, then feel free to just put yourself and allow us to allocate you a role if you are selected as part of the team. If you do have experience in any specific roles, then we’d like you to explain it in your application, as it will be of great use for figuring out where you would best slot in to the crew. However, to reiterate again, no experience is required to be involved in the film!
You must currently have a production membership for the society in order to apply for any of the roles!
The shoot dates for the film are currently set as the 25th-27th of March.
Below is a provisional list of the roles we’re looking for, but please bear in mind that these may be subject to change and that we cannot guarantee by any means that everyone will get the role that they’ve applied for:
-Assistant Director
-Script Supervisor
-Gaffer
-Spark
-Assistant Camera
-Grip
-Location Sound
-Boom Operator
-Runner

-Director of Photography
If you’d like to apply for the Director of Photography Role, please send a short personal statement and attach some examples of any past work you’ve done to help us get a feel for your technical experience and artistic vision.
I look forward to reading your applications and working with you soon!
