Hello!
If you want to be part of this year’s FilmSoc committee, this is your chance! We are looking to fill the following vacant positions:
Workshop Producer (x2)
The Workshop Producer is in charge of reaching out to filmmakers and industry professionals, as well as FilmSoc alumni, to organise talks, Q&As, and theoretical/practical workshops. It’s great for networking!
Marketing Officer
If you enjoy graphic design and like planning marketing campaigns, this role is for you! You’ll be in charge of our social media, working together with other committee members to make sure people know about our events, filmmaking opportunities, and more.
Blog & Podcast Editor-in-Chief
Together with Alexia Mihaila, you’ll have to edit reviews and essays submitted to the blog, organise the blog’s press passes for festivals, schedule interviews with filmmakers, put together podcast shows, and more!
Videography & Livestreaming Producer
We produce quite a few videos for other societies, such as the trailers for the Drama Society play ‘Machinal’, and also streams for the Students Union (Varsity 2021, Student Union Awards, Welcome Fair…). The Videography & Livestream Producer has to process the videography requests we get from other societies, put together a crew for videography shoots and livestreams, and oversee these productions.
Archive Officer
Given that our society was founded in 1948, our archive is vast. Right now, our entire archive of 16mm films is at the top of the Bloomsbury Gym, in crates, decaying due to the bad conditions of the room its stored in. The Archive Officer, together with the Archive Team, will gradually move those crates down to the studio, put together the right type of shelves for the storage of the 16mm film rolls, document everything, help build a telecine machine, start the scanning process, etc. As with all the other committee roles, no experience is required, so if you don’t have any prior knowledge of the archival process for 16mm, it’ll be a great opportunity for you to learn how it all works!
Nominations are open until next Monday (Nov 8th, 2021) and voting begins next Tuesday (Nov 9th, 2021).
To nominate yourself, visit uclfilm.com/elections and search for ‘Film’. If you have logged into your UCL account, you should be able to submit a nomination when accessing the page for each role.
