It may have been delayed, but with the government’s recent announcement of a gradual ease of lockdown restrictions, there’s hope!
With that in mind, FilmSoc welcomes your applications for the role of Producer and Field Producer for our upcoming Documentary production‼
Producer
A producer must be organized, invested in the project, be able to work around time and budget constraints, be able to solve problems and show perseverance, determination and passion. You are the motor of the film, and we want to see this come through in your application. Please write one side of an A4 sheet (max) to tell us why you should be producer for this documentary, and send it to us by 7PM on Sunday 7th March.
Once all applications have been received, we will select a few people for a ‘face-to-face’ chat (on zoom) with a panel composed of Film Society committee members to select the producer. This will probably take place sometime between 4-6PM on Thursday 11th March- if you are not free on that date, please let us know in your application and we will sort something out. You should also ideally be available for the Field Producer’s panel discussion, which will be taking place on Wednesday 17th March.
All bids are to be emailed to uclfilmsociety@gmail.com before the deadline. Please also CC your applications to cagri.ustaoglu.19@ucl.ac.uk.
Shooting will (hopefully, unless government guidelines change drastically) take place sometime in April or May, so please make sure your availability is flexible in those months before you submit an application!
APPLICATION GUIDELINES:
- What are the qualities that make a good producer? Please give examples of situations in the past where you have demonstrated these qualities.
- Do you have previous experience in making films? If so, please tell us a bit more about your experience (does not necessarily have to be producing).
PLEASE NOTE: You need to be a Production Member of the society to apply and get involved.
Field Producer
More into research? Our Field Producer will locate sources, research leads and develop content for the story that the documentary will showcase. They can also manage a team for helping to research the chosen project.
If there’s a subject that you’re particularly passionate about or already have some content you’ve been toying with this is the perfect opportunity.
Send a one-page treatment, detailing your proposed project alongside your personal skills and experience that will make you suited to researching it, to uclfilmsociety@gmail.com by 7PM Sunday 14th March. Please also CC your applications to cagri.ustaoglu.19@ucl.ac.uk.
A panel of committee members will then invite a few field producers for a discussion (on zoom) of their idea on Wednesday 17th March, and after that we will pick the treatment which we think has the most potential. We will judge the treatments mainly on the idea and its originality, but also on their feasibility for a low-budget, student production.

We look forward to reading your applications!
