Hey everyone! Here is a list of some useful websites for finding free documentaries for you to watch. If there are any that I've missed, it would be great if you add them to the list with a reply!
YouTube – there are lots of quality YouTube channels that produce quality documentaries, eg AlphaGo, Inside North Korea (2017), Man with a movie camera (1929)! You can also find documentaries from other streaming services on here too, like Netlfix’s 13th
UCL Self-access centre (SAC) database – you can browse by language or subject to find free films or documentaries

Kanopy (UCL students have free access) – great streaming service with films and documentaries. My favourites on there so far have been Jihad in Hollywood (about a Syrian actor, called Jihad, who tries to restart his life in the US as a refugee) and The American Lie.

Box Of Broadcasts (BoB) – again, free access when signing in via UCL. I found that this one is not too easy to navigate; it’s best used if you know what you want to find and just use the search bar.

Documentary Storm – similar to Kanopy, ie great! This is free for everyone.

Documentary Heaven – this website collates documentaries from various other sources (such as YouTube and Vimeo) and classifies them into useful subject categories. They post docs on their website frequently (claim every other day although I’m not too sure). Basically just a library for documentaries.

Top Documentary Films – similar to above

Documentary Tube.com – similar to above. This one also allows you to create an account, log in and save watchlists etc.

Documentary.net – also a collation (like above). The website is more similar to a YouTube format though, with shorter videos with thumbnails dotted around the home page. The subject categories are seen in the ‘watch videos’ tab, as there are other features such as ‘magazine’ which contains short articles about the filmmaking behind documentaries

Documentary24 – collation of documentaries. Doesn’t seem to contain any docs newer than 2019, though.
